In his exhibition Daily Intake, Jett Osian delves into the quiet erosion of genuine human connection in an age increasingly defined by instant gratification and digital affirmation. With a particular focus on social media, he examines how technology has supplanted embodied presence with reductive gestures—a thumbs-up, a heart react—emojis that now stand in for empathy, intimacy, and acknowledgment.

Once considered sacred, the boundaries between private and public life have dissolved. Personal moments, once reserved for diaries or whispered confidences, are now broadcast to a curated audience—or worse, to anyone with an internet connection. Social media platforms have become digital amphitheaters where our posts, photos, and fragments of thought await verdicts, rendered not through dialogue but through icons. It is a world in which every meal shared, every milestone declared, every grief or joy uploaded becomes an offering to the algorithm.

These interactions, filtered through our dopamine-addled brains, are not just casually received—they are anticipated, longed for. We check our screens compulsively, measuring the worth of an experience by the volume of digital applause. In this matrix of validation, lived moments begin to feel incomplete until affirmed by others. Our identities, once forged in the texture of real encounters, are now shaped by external reactions, quantified by likes and views.

Through a suite of monochromatic paintings—pensive, restrained, and occasionally interrupted by daubs of color that function like sirens—Osian reflects on the strange inversion that has occurred: real life has grown pale and synthetic, while the digital sphere pulses with manufactured vitality. These works do not depict technology per se but the emotional architecture it leaves behind—the flattening of affect, the yearning for recognition, the dull ache of disconnection.

Having previously explored the entanglements between everyday life and the digital realm, Osian continues to interrogate the seductive power of technology. In Daily Intake, he likens social media affirmation to a pharmaceutical substance, a drug taken daily not to heal but to cope, to maintain a simulacrum of connection. And yet, beneath this dependency looms a deeper anxiety: the growing presence of artificial intelligence, which further complicates our relationship with authenticity. What becomes of the human when even the gestures of affection, encouragement, or mourning might be generated by code?
