My work focuses on the fragility of memories and entropy, exploring how we remember and forget. I'm interested in the function of memory and its many forms. How it's recorded and retrieved. From personal to collective histories.
Painting as memories, photographs as memories, gestures as memories, technology as memories, and trauma as memories. How these produce distortions and deteriorations that shape our sense of self and our place.
I'm intrigued by dichotomous relationships and the tensions found within contradictions. Whether they exist within images, themes, materials, or processes. I strive to blur the boundaries between painting, printmaking, object making, and photography. I like the interplay between image and object, presence and absence, material and representation, and the personal and the universal.
Throughout my artistic practice, I'm intrigued by the use of materials that function as walls or borders. I see these as metaphors for our feelings about how we perceive things and our experiences. How they are able to delineate states, whether physical, symbolic, or metaphorical, how they create an arbitrary and ambiguous barrier. A kind of liminal space on the brink between conditions.
