Dapo sa Takip-hapon: Neil Pasilan
In this series, I bring together scenes from the daily lives of birds—their movement through trees, their encounters with one another, their nesting, and their return to rest. Each painting contributes to a continuing story. A bird seen alone belongs to the same world as the pair among flowering branches and the birds gathered in a tree. Their routines connect the works, following a cycle of searching, finding company, seeking shelter, and settling as daylight fades.
Trees, branches, flowers, and nests recur throughout the paintings. These elements define the birds' spaces and link one scene to the next. Branches provide places to perch and meet, while nests introduce the routines of shelter and care. Some compositions bring a single bird into focus; others open into a wider setting where several birds occupy different parts of the same tree. Through these changes in scale, I move between individual moments and the shared life around them.
Within this daily cycle, a love story also takes shape. Two birds face each other among flowering branches, bringing companionship into the larger narrative. Their meeting connects with the recurring images of nests, resting places, and birds sharing their surroundings. I present love through these ordinary acts of being together and making room for another. It develops within the routines that sustain their lives.
Color and texture carry the story across the series. Greens, blues, yellows, and pinks recur in the birds and their surroundings, while quieter passages of gray and white give space to solitary scenes. Layered strokes connect feathers with foliage, branches, and water. The birds remain distinct, but their forms are held within the textures of the environment they inhabit.
“Limlim sa Takipsilim” gathers these connected moments into a story of daily life, companionship, and care. The birds move between being alone and being together, between activity and rest. As the day draws to a close, perching and nesting become part of the same continuing rhythm—a return to shelter before another day begins.
